LANDSCAPING STRATEGY

About

The Hospital site offers opportunities to create a park like setting to promote health and wellness through strategic landscape design.

The plan complements the unique Griffith Base Hospital site and the healthcare needs of local consumers while respecting the 1914 Walter Burley Griffin town-planning legacy, connecting key city sites along an axial link.

Several courtyards are planned for the main hospital building, including a ground floor cultural courtyard, a peaceful gathering space that will incorporate locally significant plantings, water elements, stones, timber and natural colours.

A central courtyard in the centre of the Hospital building provides a green outlook for patients and staff while allowing abundant natural light in.

A rehabilitation courtyard is designed as therapy, social and aesthetic space for patients and their families. This outdoor space will feature seating and be designed as a calming environment.

An outdoor staff courtyard on the ground floor will include lawn, trees, seating, tables and is designed as a private and secure space for staff to use during their breaks.

Secure bicycle storage and end of trip facilities are planned to encourage staff to ride to work.

A yarning circle near the Community Health building offers relaxed outdoor spaces for groups to gather when seeking solistice or respite.
